Two-day Trip on the Missouri River
New to Big Hole Lodge is a two day guided float trip on the fabled Missouri River below Holter Dam near the town of Craig. This is a river rich in aquatic insect life that creates some of the most prolific hatches of any river in the state. It has been described as a river with spring creek like qualities, prompting fly fishers to focus on favorite riffles, seams and back eddies for extended periods, casting over fish that average 15-17” and go up to 22” or more. The Missouri is truly a dry fly angler’s paradise with abundant hatches of caddis, mayflies, and midges along with some great terrestrial fishing in September.
Your guide will help you get packed up and get an early start from the lodge. After a 2-½ hour drive north on I-15, you’ll have the option of floating the river or wade fishing on some private access to the river owned by the lodge where you’ll be staying. After your day of fishing, accommodations and a delicious dinner will be provided at a beautiful riverfront lodge only ¾ miles from where you take the boat out. The rooms are very spacious and well-appointed with a panoramic view of the river. For those who would like to fish the evening hatch or spinner fall, the lodge offers a golf cart to the river that is approximately a 300-yard drive on a dirt road.
Next morning you’re back on the river with your guide and another chance to catch that trophy rainbow that you may have missed along the bank the day before. After another full day of matching the hatch on the renowned Missouri, your guide will have you back at Big Hole Lodge in time for appetizers before dinner and the company of your fellow guests. The additional cost for this trip is $300 per person.
